Post #3 Creativity Article and its Summary - GRQ

Creativity Article and its Summary

From the article, "New study reveals why some people are more creative than others," Roger Beaty explains how creativity are able to extend beyond artistic pursuits to everyday problem solving. Recent psychological and neuroscience research has revealed that creativity is a combination of spontaneous and regulated thought. A famous study including 163 people conducting a divergent thinking test under fMRI scans evaluated their ability to create novel uses for ordinary things. This test was associated with participants' creative activities and achievements. The study discovered a "high-creative" network in the brain, which includes the default, salience, and executive networks. These networks, which are often non-simultaneous, exhibit higher co-activation in more creative individuals. This is consistent with observations among professional artists from many professions. The findings pave the path for further study into whether boosting brain network connections can improve creative thinking.
